A free verse poem

To my Mom with Love

What it is to be a mother?

I can’t personally tell,

I’ve always been a daughter,

I’ve seen is not an easy task.

What can I speak about?

About how my mommy has been all along these years.

She’s been compassionate, caring and considerate.

She’s been resilient, strong and persistent.

I’ve got no shame on bragging a bit more about my mom:

she came from an old town forgotten by God,

she made herself all the way up,

and she’s always been capable of doing anything!

Mom, my beautiful mom.

I want to thank you for all, but “thank you” is not large enough.

I failed to you on finding a more meaningful word.

I fell short on this one.

I really want you to understand that:

I am deeply grateful to you for everything you've done for me.

No! I’m more than grateful to you for your love and care.

It’s a gratitude bigger than the galaxy.

Mom, mommy, my mom,

I want to say sorry:

Sorry for breaking your heart.

Sorry for making you cry.

Sorry for being disobedient and arrogant.

Sorry for sometimes being ungrateful.

Sorry for ignoring your pearls of wisdom.

Sorry for everything I never knew I did to you.

I am what I am because of you.

You made me!

You carried me inside of you for nine months.

You taught me how to read and how to speak.

You made of me an independent woman.

I’ve achieved everything in this life because of you.

You are a support to me as the horseshoe is to the horse.

You are the pillar that has allowed me to persevere in all kinds of situations.

Mom, I love you.

I love you deeply.

I love you to the moon and back.

Forever and until the end of time God bless you greatly!

I know love knocked at your door even before I was born.

I know your love for me is as big as Jupiter.

Mom, remember, forever and for always:

I love you 3,000.

As a part of the evaluation in the class 'Intro to Literature' I had to write a fourth poem:

"Think of someone important in your life and write a free verse poem. No more than fifteen (15) verses; no less than ten (10)."
